Solar panels for the domestic sector
Whether your motivations are financial or environmental, the returns achievable by investing in solar PV panels for your home are clear to see, ordinarily a domestic PV system will achieve returns in of 8 -10%.

The government introduced the feed-in tariff in April 2010 which means that householders are paid a very generous rate for the electricity they generate through solar PV panels, even if they use the electricity themselves. Any electricity that is not used is exported to the grid and the householder is paid an additional export rate.

Installing solar PV panels can reduce the amount of electricity that you need to buy from the national grid by around 30% overall meaning a significant reduction in fuel bills. Take a look through some of the video case studies from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to the right of this page.

Solargains specialise in supplying and fitting high-quality solar PV systems and support householders from the initial survey, design through to installation.

FAST FACTS ON FEED IN TARIFFS

If an average household, for example a three or four bedroom house, installed solar PV panels that generate electricity, the Feed-In Tariffs would provide the following benefits:

The electricity generated would pay the homeowner £769 a year tax-free

Remaining electricity costs would be reduced from £500 to £327: saving £223

Therefore the total benefit would be £992 per year

This is based on an average use of 4,500kWh of electricity per year and the installation of 3.68kW of solar PV panels.
